3 scholarships one must apply for!

As part of the WIT Learning Program, I was given the task to discover 3 opportunities I’d like to apply for.

Was indeed interesting to see that information to such scholarships was just a google search away!

Have listed 3 of the myriad wonderful scholarships below :

  1. Gates Cambridge Scholarship :

The Gates Cambridge Scholarships were introduced by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation where graduate students from all around the world are given a chance to study in Cambridge University. The first scholars arrived at Cambridge in October 2001 and previous recipients continue to support the next generation of scholars long after they have completed their studies.

Check this video to get an idea about the scholarship.

Reward :

a. Full funding for postgraduate study at Cambridge for the duration of the degrees, as well as life access to Gates House in the University Centre.

b. All tuition costs (up to £34,107 per year) and a generous maintenance allowance by UK standards, currently set at £17,500.

c. Travel funds for conferences.

Eligibility :

a. Applicant needs to be a citizen of any other country apart from United Kingdom.

b. Applicant needs to be applying to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study :

  • PhD (three year research-only degree)
  • MSc or MLitt (two year research-only degree)
  • One year postgraduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA etc.)

Selection Criteria :

  • outstanding intellectual ability
  • leadership potential
  • a commitment to improving the lives of others
  • a good fit between the applicant’s qualifications and aspirations and the postgraduate programme at Cambridge for which they are applying

2. Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program :

The Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program is a full-time hands-on training and educational program that provides early career individuals with the opportunity to spend 12 weeks at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, DC learning about science and technology policy and the role that scientists and engineers play in advising the nation.

Each fellow is assigned to a senior staff member who acts as his/her mentor. The mentor provides guidance and ensures that the fellow’s time is focused on substantive projects and activities within the fellow’s assigned unit.

Eligibility :

  • Graduate and professional school students and those who have completed graduate studies within the last five years may apply.
  • Areas of study may include social/behavioral sciences, health and medicine, physical or biological sciences, engineering, law/business/public administration, or relevant interdisciplinary fields.
  • A non-US citizen must have hold one of the following visas :
  • F-1 students using CPT (curricular practical training)
    - F-1 students using OPT (optional practical training)
    - J-2 dependents
    - J-1 students using academic training
    - J-1 research scholars with written approval of their Responsible Officer
    - DACA recipients
    - Adjustment applicants, refugees, asylees, and selected other visa classes
  • F-1 students using CPT (curricular practical training)
    - F-1 students using OPT (optional practical training)
    - J-2 dependents
    - J-1 students using academic training
    - J-1 research scholars with written approval of their Responsible Officer
    - DACA recipients
    - Adjustment applicants, refugees, asylees, and selected other visa classes

Application process :

  1. Review your eligibility.
  2. Select a prospective unit link to find activities that interest you. Consider e-mailing unit staff to gauge their interest in hosting a fellow.
  3. Fill the application form.
  4. Gather 2 references that are relevant to your academic, professional, volunteer or other related experience.

3. AAUW’s International Fellowship Program :

The American Association of University Women International Fellowship program provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work.

Rewards:

  • Master’s/first professional degree: $18,000
  • Doctoral: $20,000
  • Postdoctoral: $30,000

Deadline :

July 1, 2019–June 30, 2020 for Fellowship year

Eligibility :

  1. Have citizenship in a country other than the U.S.
  2. Hold an academic degree (earned in the U.S. or abroad) equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree
  3. Intend to devote herself full-time to the proposed academic plan during the fellowship year
  4. Intend to return to her home country to pursue a professional career
  5. Proficient in English
  6. Applicants must be conducting a full year of study or research. International Fellowships do not provide funding for a partial year of study or research.

Requirements :

  1. Proof of highest degree
  2. Proof of bachelor’s degree
  3. Official report of TOEFL test scores or waiver request
  4. C.V./Resume
