Before we discuss how AI is replacing our ability of being creative( maybe the only quality that used to be too much for AI to mimic), let us first face it…Is ChatGPT and other AI tools actually invading our creative space? Well, you clicked this article because you believe so…so yes, got ya!

I remember the time when ChatGPT first entered the internet world and soon became a sensation gaining more than 100 million active users within two months of its initial release in nov, 2022(the fastest consumer software application in history at the time). Today with over 180.5 million monthly users, it is easing our everyday jobs; getting our essays written, drafting our resumes, deciding what presents suit our loved ones that ChatGPT has no clue about and what not, seriously/?

But have these tools taken over our ability to think? Our originality and our unique voice that make us the real selves we believe to be?

AI can produce human-quality text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and generate images and music. Studies show it can even mimic artistic styles.

I firmly believe that we have deviated our creativity to ChatGPT and Bard rather than our senses. And if you think otherwise, I encourage you to ask your friends and co-workers, how many times they had a line in mind and had ChatGPT finish it for them. And dare not ask your loved ones, for you will come to face the painful realization that the letter you received on Valentine’s probably had its roots in several last-minute prompts to ChatGPT.

While undoubtedly AI is changing the creative picture by having us rely too heavily on external tools for creative expression, I believe that in a sense, it can never beat the feats humans have achieved so far…AI could never write poetry as good as Yeats, or write books like Stephen King, or make music like Taylor Swift.

But, could they give us a helping hand in our everyday tasks that don’t demand us to think out of the box? Absolutely yes…It is always ok to run your scripts through AI to perform checks on typos, grammar errors, and inconsistencies. But the script, you type out, because no one can better write content that best reflects your experiences and backgrounds than yourself..

Even in the Job Market, ChatGPT created a panic that it might take out lakhs of jobs. While half-baked Career Analysts will completely agree, fueling your fear, Experts state otherwise. AI is only believed to replace automated tasks encouraging us to pursue better goals and jobs than monotonous jobs that literally computers without minds can accomplish.

Ongoing AI transition will boost job opportunities for roles that require complex problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and advanced technical skills. On the other hand, jobs that primarily involve repetitive and manual tasks could see a decrease in demand.(Source: India Today)

Today, increased involvement of AI with Content Writing has pushed organizations to use various tools like Quill-Bot AI Detector to check for generative content which are again powered by AI.

Widening the scope of this article to AI, overall…I’d say I’m surprised by the capabilities of AI in music, art, etc.

In 2020, Amper Music reported that 14.3% of the top 100 Billboard Hot 100 songs used AI tools in their creation. (Source: Amper Music)

You Know the Name

Recently, Music Legend AR Rahman released a statement that his team is to use AI to recreate the voices of late singers Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed for a track in veteran actor Rajinikanth’s new film “Lal Salam”.

Now, this is AI being actually useful.

A 2023 study by Northeastern University found that human-AI co-written articles received 5x more views than human-written articles. (Source: Northeastern University)

The future is collaborative

I believe that collaboration with AI can help achieve things that neither human creativity nor AI alone can accomplish with ease in isolation. While AI’s ability to process vast amounts of data and fish out useful content is unparalleled, human creativity can provide a unique perspective and tone to it.

The true impact of AI on creativity depends on how we choose to use it. By approaching it with a focus on human-centered design, we can ensure that AI enhances our creativity, not diminishes it.

Concluding, i would say that AI has a long way to go in replacing the complex wonders of the human mind. Yet, AI is a sharp-edged knife that we better not let become the sole voice of our words, art, and expression.

Its rather safe to treat ChatGPT and AI as the tools they are and allow them to help us; and only help us, not take over.
