Nature abhors sharp corners.

I feel like that could explain why round corners are seen as more friendly.

Sharp corners are frequently used in designs that are trying to look elite and austere. That these shapes are so wealthy that they have the means to shelter themselves from the elements. Sharp corners are rare and suggest exclusivity.

Round shapes are everyday people like us. Their populartiy in places that want to suggest inclusivity makes a lot of sense.
