At first reading this I thought, “anti-semitic”? (I prefer the term anti-Jewish.) That’s so over. He’s wrong; his friends the movement are not anti-semitic. But reading on, I get his point. There is still anti-semitism in the world, especially in right-wing movements like Le Pen’s in France and white supremacists in the US. And there may be anti-semitism on the left, too, but it seems to me the author is confusing the left’s anger with the Israeli government with anti-semitism. It is wrong to mourn Palestinian deaths and celebrate Israeli soldiers’ deaths. All human lives are precious. It is wrong to turn perpetrators of even terrible acts into monsters, the other. We are all humans. We all need to feel whole. Jews carry the legacy of trauma in their genes. And he’s correct: no one else can make anyone feel whole. You have to do that for yourself. This article took tremendous bravery to write and publish.
