The Beauty of the FA Cup
English football fans love this competition and there’s an excellent reason why
The FA Cup is England’s most prestigious cup competition in the sport of football. In the next 4 minutes, I’m going to give you an overview of what happened this weekend and why this cup is loved so much in English football.
The English Premier League is the best league in the world. The FA Cup is England’s primary cup competition and every season teams from all over the English football pyramid compete over many rounds to see who can lift the trophy at the end of the season.
The FA Cup was founded 152 years ago in 1871. This season sees 732 teams play knockout fixtures until we’re left with two teams in the final at the end of the season. The current holders are Liverpool FC who beat Chelsea FC 1–0 in the final last season to lift the trophy for the 8th time in their history. The most successful FA Cup team is Arsenal who have lifted the FA Cup 14 times throughout their history and it hurts me to write that as I’m a Spurs fan and Arsenal is our biggest rival.
