How to wear Flame timelessly
Pantone has announced the Pantone colors of Spring 2017, and the second one is Flame.
But Flame is a difficult color to pull off, especially if you plan to hold on to the pieces you buy this season for the lifetime of your wardrobe. It’s a very scary color to buy because so many people just don’t know how they are going to wear it, especially next season when it’s no longer trendy. Well fear no longer! Here is some information about Flame and how to wear it timelessly.
First things first, we should think about color psychology when we decide what colors to wear. You want to dress the way you would like to be perceived, especially at work.
Flame is the color of adventure and social communication. Flame aids in the assimilation of new ideas and gives us the freedom to be ourselves. At the same time it encourages self-respect and respect of others, so wear Flame when you are trying to be social, such as at a networking event for work or a party, or when meeting someone for the first time, as it helps to make a good, genuine first impression. A warm and inviting color, Flame is both physically and mentally stimulating, so it gets people thinking and talking. Flame is also stimulating to the appetite. Wear Flame if you are throwing a dinner party because it will keep your guests talking and eating for a long time, and it will keep them happy. Flame brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life. With its enthusiasm for life, the color Flame relates to adventure and risk-taking, inspiring physical confidence, competition and independence, so wear Flame when you are in a competition or when you are doing sports activities. Flame is also a great color for an independent business owner. The color Flame radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow. Wear Flame when you want to increase your speed and vitality. Flame relates to our gut instincts and offers emotional strength in difficult times. It helps us to bounce back from disappointments and despair, assisting in recovery from grief. Flame helps us to take account of our lives, to face the consequences, to take action and make appropriate changes, and then to move onward and upward, so wear Flame when you are in a bad situation in order to figure out what you can do to put things back together. Young people also respond well to Flame as it has a degree of youthful impulsiveness and vitality to it, so wear this color if you are working with children or babysitting.
I also think it’s important to think about color theory when looking at what to wear because you always want to bring out your best features rather than overshadowing yourself or washing yourself out. So, wear Flame if you are a Clear/ Pure/ Bright Spring, like one of these lovely ladies:
The best makeup options to wear with a Flame top, coat, or dress are:
For an everyday look:
- Fresh Face With Peachy Blush: just enough concealer to hide imperfections and tinted moisturizer that matches your skin tone. Cream- based sheer cheek tint in peach, or salmon. Eyebrows one shade darker than your hair color. “Boy Brows” or a more natural- looking shape to your brows is perfect for this look, as it’s meant to be carefree and natural- looking. I would just use a brow gel or simply fill in the gaps in your eyebrows very lightly with an eyebrow pencil.
a) With Light Brown Neutral Eyes- cover lids with metallic or sparkly eyeshadow in apricot ice, or light sand, contour eyes with matte eyeshadow in milk chocolate, mascara in cocoa.
and a Warm Pink lip: lip gloss or semi- gloss lipstick in coral pink, or warm pastel pink.
For a special occasion:
2) Bronzed Face: Moisturizer, Primer, Concealer, Foundation that matches your skin tone, Highlight in a cream- based color in a shade or two lighter than your skin tone, Contour with shimmery bronzer in milk chocolate, and Blush in Salmon. Eyebrows one shade darker than your hair color. Since this a more glamorous look, the brows should be more defined, a bit sharper. You can go slightly darker than you normally would with your brows for this look, or you could just sharpen the edges of the brows by using an eyebrow stencil.
a) with Brown Smokey Eyes: cover entire eye with metallic or sparkly cream shade in apricot ice, or light sand, matte eyeshadow in milk chocolate on upper lids, line upper and lower lash lines with a wing in cocoa, blend, champagne glitter highlight to middle of upper lid, tear duct, below the eye/ top of cheekbone, and right under the eyebrow from arch to tail, mascara in cocoa.
and a Warm Pink Lip as above.
There is also an option to wear Flame as your lipstick color, but only do this if you are wearing a white, ivory, or cream dress, top, or jacket. Heres how:
3) Fresh Face- just enough concealer to hide imperfections and tinted moisturizer that matches your skin tone. Eyebrows one shade darker than your hair. Eyebrows are very important in this look because it’s basically the only thing on your face that will balance out the lipstick, so make sure that your lines are crisp and that they have a definite shape, so I prefer an eyebrow stencil for this look.
a) with Champagne and Light Brown Neutral Eyes- cover lids with champagne, contour eyes with milk chocolate, mascara in cocoa.
The Flame lipstick should be pigmented and be glossy or semi- glossy. The lips will be the highlight of your look, and you will certainly hear compliments!
