The Scars

When you wake up,

I may explain the scars on my arms and face,

I may tell you of how I got them.

You may not believe it at first,

But I will only tell you the truth.

You may not remember,

You may recoil,

For it is not in your nature to hurt,

But you do.

You want to be an empath,

Do you feel the physical and emotional pain,

That you inflict?

Does it hurt you the way it hurts me?

Will you the carry the scars,

on your body and soul?

Maybe you will,

Maybe you won’t,

But I will,

And I will forgive and try to love,

Until the scars run too deep.

And then I will move on.
