It didn’t come across as snarky at all! Believe me, I’ve SEEN some snark over the past year about this essay and this is not that. ;-) I actually really appreciated the thoughtful and calm way you approached what is a totally legit reaction to have and question to ask. There’s SO much to dig into on the topic of class and addiction, not to mention race and addiction. E.g. last year someone noted that women of color would face a lot more judgement for even drinking at the level I did as a white woman, and my intuition says that is probably true. BTW, I ask myself those ‘what if?’ questions sometimes too — could I have recovered sooner, etc. I suspect we all. At least we’re here now. :-)
