Hi Tim,
I suggest you reread my piece where I make it clear that I have zero problem with body hair removal. Although I do not remove my body hair right now in solidarity with my daughter, I will perhaps again in the future. I also have zero issue with another mum deciding to allow their child to remove their body hair either. Hope that clears things up.
I hope that one day deciding to keep one’s body hair is just as accepted as deciding to remove it. Right now it isn’t and my daughter faced a decision under huge pressure from only one side.
Since I wrote this piece I can say with absolute certainty that my daughter is more confident and happier with herself than she has ever been. This summer she has worn short sleeved tops and shorts and been absolutely fine with the fact she has body hair. She has also developed a real and healthy resilience to any negative comments she receives which have lessened as her peers realise that they aren’t going to influence her behaviour through bullying. She has also learned to think for herself and to analyse any pressure she faces, thinking about what *she* wants before simply caving.
So, thanks for your critique and predictions about my daughter’s life and personality but put simply, you’re wrong.
