From all that I have seen, this does not rise to the level of abuse whatsoever. In the way you’ve framed this, you risk not only slandering an influential person in the church, but you also risk undermining victims of sexual abuse within the church and trivializing the world itself. Every single interaction that we have with another human involves some sort of power differential, and sometimes that power dynamic can flip flop in an instant. But that doesn’t mean that every time someone says they’re going to back out of an agreement unless certain terms are met, that it constitutes abuse. No one else gets to decide for Dr. Hauerwas how his name and influence are used.
We must be extremely careful with our words, because they too are powerful. The way this has been framed has made what passed between you and Dr. Hauerwas sound very much like something it is not. Having grown up as a pastor’s kid, I have seen careers, reputations, and lives destroyed for less. I would hate to see the same happen either to Dr. Hauerwas, or to yourself, on account of this.
