Fall is here again. [poem]

(source)

one morning i went out
and the air was cooler
fall is here again
and i breathed in
another season passed
i thought of sweet summer corn
sand that sticks to limbs
staying up late
just to get more —
more, out of that day
and then fall is here again
and i breathed in
another season of my life
it passes, faster now
unmarked by the bookends of new pencils
and sweaty thighs
sticking to school chairs
i thought of time
and wondered
if it were moving
or if i were staying still
and it were moving past me
and maybe
 — maybe —
if i stood still enough
i could catch it
like breath
and hold it until it hurt
the way the cold air stings your lungs
when you take that first
cold breath
of fall

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
