D57 — The lycra laundry tower
As a person who trains and / or runs mostly everyday during the week, my laundry basket is likely to throw up on my bedroom floor on a weekly basis. Especially after days with summerly hot and humid conditions, as I’m literally drenching my training clothes just thinking about running in such heat. The human shower has been for real indeed, and as lovely as it feels during, as wet and disgusting it feels after. But honestly, who cares? It’s just sweat. Though determining your lycra to be washed after every use, as it would be either too smelly or stiff from the salts sweat out if not.
LOL — This made me recall my racing clothes from after Berlin Marathon. I left it in the bathroom to dry at the hotel while we were out having all the food, cake, and beer in the world. Absolutely enjoying ourselves. When we got back to the hotel in the evening and I picked it up, I realised it had kept the same shape as it was hanging in, absolutely crystalised in salt. Such a good laugh!
And, when you have to dry it just a reasonable bit before putting it in your laundry basket, preventing it from getting moldy, you basically end up with a lot of lycra hanging around, just to fill up the basket when dry enough. On top of that, you’ll naturally have normal people’s clothes to be washed and dried seperatelt – I do not hope anybody wash their lycra with anything else than lycra! If so, please stop.
Having three weekends in a row abroad, running wherever I am, and in between, my lycra laundry tower has already reached new highs and the growth seems unlimited no matter what I do. Yes, I have a lot of lycra, probably a bit too much, but I’m not lying when I tell you that I’ve almost run out of clean shorts, singlets, sport bras, even socks and t-shirts! And I definitely had to get this shit sorted before heading towards Copenhagen. Especially because I haven’t really decided what exactly to wear for the race yet — and probably won’t before Saturday evening or Sunday morning to be fair. Thursday was a looong day, but I tried to work effeciently and structured, lucky enough to be in bed by midnight, having a good nights sleep before the real shenanigans begin.
