‘Yang makes league debut’ as Celtic win 4–2 in opener…Oh, Hyun-gyu, Kwon, Hyuk-gyu benched

Yang Hyun-jun made his Scottish Premiership debut.

Celtic defeated Ross County 4–2 in the first round of the 2023–24 Scottish Premiership on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET at Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic started in a 4–2–3–1 formation. Ace Kyogo Furuhashi was up front. On the left and right flanks, Riel Abada and Daizen Maeda got chances. Matthew O’Reilly orchestrated from the center.

Taylor was tripped by a defender as he went for the ball, and the referee didn’t hesitate to award a penalty. Turnbull stepped up to the spot and slotted the ball home for Celtic’s first league goal of the 2023–24 season.

With the momentum in their favor, Celtic began to show their class as the defending champions. In the 26th minute, Ace Furuhashi was introduced. After a goal kick, Celtic attacked quickly. Amada quickly delivered it to the center, where Furuhashi, unmarked by a defender, calmly slotted it home. Celtic took a 2–0 lead.

Celtic’s offense didn’t stop there. In the 37th minute, Celtic put together a good passing play. After Furuhashi dropped back to the second line for a moment, Turnbull drove boldly into the center and received a pass. Turnbull had the perfect opportunity but was denied by a series of saves.

Turnbull made up for his mistake just five minutes later. Celtic attacked from the left. O’Reilly concentrated and sent in a cross that Turnbull, who was behind him, didn’t miss this time. Celtic went into halftime with a comfortable 3–0 lead.
