Finding affordable healthcare is the #1 concern for freelancers, who will make up half of the global workforce by 2029. Yet despite the growing number of independent workers on the planet, insurance options for self-employed individuals remain expensive and limited. Upwork found that while 80% of U.S. freelancers were insured in 2019, only 20% purchased a plan on their own. The rest reportedly qualified through Medicare, Medicaid, or relied on their parents or spouse for coverage.
