The book Catch 22 has many different symbols and some example are: The soldier in white, The hospital and the increasing number of missions.

The Soldier in White: 1. The Soldier in white is a symbol for the inhumanity which the generals treats its soldiers. It is by the way the generals throw the soldiers out in warfare. Nobody know is the soldier in white is dead or alive which might indicate that the generals does not care about the soldiers lives. It could indicate that the generals have taken the soldiers humanity.

The Hospital: 2. The Hospital is a symbol for shelter and safety by the way that the hospital keeps the soldiers away from combat. The hospital is not completely exempt form the madness of the war. The soldier in white, and the censored letters reveals the absurdity that still exists within the hospital walls.

The increasing number of missions: 3. The increasing number of missions are a symbol of injustice and absurdity. The number og missions are increasing by the war effort from the generals command. The increasing number of missions gives information about the time line as well. We see the missions rise from fifty to fifty-five and the base was forty which telles the reader that catch-22 is not chronological.
