By sitting down and writing about my life, I pay attention to it, I honor it, and when I’ve written about it long enough, I have a record of my days, and I can then go back and pay attention to what I pay attention to, discover my own patterns, and know myself better. It helps me fall in love with my life.
I have not moved cities for a long time but experienced many changes to my life over the last 15 years. From job changes to marriage, divorce, and now onto my current path outside of the corporate world. Change is still very difficult for me at times. It brings with it so much uncertainty but also an opportunity. If we do not allow ourselves to flow with change we will be stagnant like a foul pool of water. We believe if everything stays as it is, we will be safe and comfortable. This is a lie. There is no safety in stagnation and in reality, we are only limiting ourselves. Change allows us to grow and become better people. It gives us the power to do something more with our lives. As Bruce Lee said, “Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.”
