I couldn’t agree more with the need to teach empathy to our kids and learn it ourselves, whether we have kids or not.
My concern is that our profit driven organizational structures don’t have the funds to adequately teach the hard technical skills required to produce citizens who can contribute to the money machine, how are we going to find the resources to teach something as fluffy as empathy?
Don’t get me wrong, empathy is ANYTHING but fluffy and it would actually improve all of the technical learning and innovative output we need to increase revenue streams. It’s a win win win, but in a fearful society so reliant on 140 character bottom line communication, proving the value of empathy is a long tail strategy at best.
Enough with the cynicism, where are the solutions? How do we pitch this?
