Trip to Bhangarh — India’s most haunted place.

When I used to visit my grandmother’s place during summer vacations of my school she used to tell me stories about supernatural entities. Listening to those stories made me wonder if there are really such things. This desire to explore and know about them increased as I grew up. As a teenager I used to go to places in my village at night where we were forbidden to go..

Ever since I joined college I had this thought in my mind that I would definitely make a visit to India’s most haunted place — The Bhangarh. My long awaited dream came true when campus placements got over.

We booked a car and drove from Jaipur to Alwar. After a journey of 1 hour 30 minutes the fort was in front of my eyes . We parked our car and then entered inside a huge gate, it was 3:00 P.M. then. Actually the fort is far from the main gate and in between you have to walk for around 2 kms and in the way you would find the ruins of ancient houses where the King’s subjects lived. We explored the place, the whole fort was a run down. Staying at Bhangarh has been made illegal by ASI(Archaeological Survey of India) after 5:30 , but as we explored the place our desire to know about the mysteries surrounding the fort increased , so we decided to stay.

Before the sunset the whole place was noisy with screams of monkeys and birds, but after sunset there was pin drop silence. It was 6:00 in the evening and the guards came inside to check if anyone is sneaking ,we found a bush and stayed there till they left. We came out of the bush and started heading towards the fort main entrance with horror music playing in the background. With each step our hearts were pounding and beating heavily as we didn’t know what next will come. With torch light on and horror music playing in the background we started looking for a hideout or an abandoned place. We found a staircase leading to such a place which was purely dark, we came to a consensus of going inside and stopped the music with a wish to hear faint voices.

Suddenly my friend stopped and told us that he heard a faint voice behind him. We all stopped where we were and decided not to go further. But to quench our curiosity me and my friend headed towards the source of the voice but we couldn’t find anything. It was 9 pm so we decided to leave ,after covering a 2 km pitch black stretch between fort and main entrance we found that the entrance was closed. We somehow figured out a way to jump the gate, then we reached our car and drove off. On our way we discussed about what sort of voice it could have been. Villagers had already told us that animals like mountain lion and jackal from hills surrounding the fort come down in search of food, but the voice was so faint that it couldn’t have been of such big animals. We thought it might be of a small animal such as snake or a bat. We couldn’t come to a conclusion , but the friend who heard the voice kept on insisting that someone whispered in his ear. We still are not sure what the voice was but it was a trip which i will remember for the rest of my life.

My suggestion to all the travelers out there , if you are planning to go out on adventurous trips , do keep Bhangarh in your checklist and stay there till 12:00 midnight if you are want to quench your thirst of curiosity. Till then happy traveling.
