When you see food that looks irresistibly scrumptious, there are high chances of your appetite increasing. This usually happens when you’re attending a birthday party, a wedding, a treat, or trying out a new restaurant where one tends to usually overeat.

But indulging in all that yummy food can also lead to the problem of indigestion. We all know how it feels when the stomach isn’t doing good. Indigestion is a common problem which is caused when the acid in the stomach flows back to the esophagus. This makes you feel full even if you haven’t eaten much throughout the day. In some cases, it can take a toll on your body by causing discomfort, irritation, pain, and heaviness if not treated well. So, we have listed some instant indigestion remedies which can be easily found in your kitchen cabinet.

  1. Ginger:

Ginger is known for settling stomach upset and improving your digestion process. You can take two spoons of lime and ginger juice, and honey. Mix them in a glass of warm water after you had a heavy meal. Besides this, you can also eat a few pieces of candied ginger, or brew up a cup of ginger tea.

2. Fennel seeds (Saunf in Hindi):

They consist of certain oil compounds such as fenchone and estragole that are known for removing the gas from the intestinal tract. These oils also help boost the production of gastric juices, soothe the spasms in the gut, relieve nausea, and help control flatulence. Chew and swallow a spoonful of fennel seeds when you’re suffering from indigestion. Fennel seeds can also prevent indigestion if consumed right after spicy meal.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar is one of the most effective indigestion remedies. It is an excellent source of magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, and other minerals that help digestion process. Vinegar is acidic in nature, thus it breaks down fats and prevents acidity. Try drinking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with a half-cup of water. It will help you digest the food if you don’t have enough acid in your stomach. You can add a little honey to sweeten the taste. This works well after a large meal.

4. Baking soda:

Indigestion is usually caused due to excess acid in the stomach. If you eat more of cabbage, beans, milk products, and onions, chances of you suffering from indigestion are high. Baking soda has sodium bicarbonate that acts as an antacid and neutralizes stomach acid. Baking soda detoxifies the digestive system, relieving you from heartburn and indigestion. Stir a teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of water and drink it. Some experts recommend adding a few drops of lemon juice to dispel some of the gas before it hits your stomach.

5. Carom seeds (Ajwain in Hindi):

Carom seeds or ajwain is known for curing various digestive disorders, including indigestion and acidity. The active enzymes in ajwain help in boosting the digestive system by facilitating gastric juices. Take ajwain with water fora week and see the difference. You can also consume ajwain powder with water to get relief from gastric problems.

6. Coriander seeds (Dhaniya in Hindi):

Coriander seeds are known for their anti-inflammatory properties that help you get relief from indigestion. Coriander consists of an essential oil called urandrol that detoxifies the liver and increases appetite, thus curing indigestion. Take coriander seeds infused in water for a week.

7. Amla:

Amla has various aphrodisiac, laxative, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties that help stimulate your digestive process. Amle ka murabba is said to be one of the most effective ingredients in curing indigestion.

8. Chamomile:

Chamomile is an age-old treatment for indigestion. It calms the stomach and soothes spasms in the intestinal tract. Take a half-teaspoon chamomile tincture up to three times daily, or drink a few cups of chamomile tea throughout the day.

9. Peppermint:

If you prefer a little zing, pamper yourself with peppermint. The plant’s oil soothes intestinal muscle spasms and helps relieve nausea. Take one or two capsules containing 0.2 millilitres of oil per capsule three times a day, between meals, or savour a steaming cup of peppermint tea.
