Thanks for sharing these great tips!

I do have a concern with #2 (taking notes). I can see how taking notes can be a distraction when executed poorly. For me though, taking notes is a form of active listening. I’ve been conducting research interviews this way for so long that it’s hard for me to truly listen without taking notes. I’ve worked hard at making my note taking discreet and not a distraction. I don’t go overboard… I only write the things that are truly important and not a direct account of everything verbatim. I believe interviewing and note taking goes hand and hand and finding the right balance of executing both is an art form.
