In the reading Grid Essay, they said, “What we want is to achieve as much perfection as possible, to arrange our information in a meaningful, clear and attractive way for our users” (http://eyelearn.org/ma-stu-gallery/gridEssay-2013/stavros/). The Grid is a method used in design to make the overall composition look clean and clear. This essay talks about what it is, why it is used, and how they are used today. We want to be able to create a great user experience that in the end will make a design successful.

What is the Grid and why is it important? Many new designers just throw things together to whatver they think looks good. Sometimes it works and other times it does not work at all, it ends up looking like a complete mess. Having a Grid makes things look more organized and it is easier to view for the viewers. The Grid helps with alignment and makes the overall composition look organized. I think this paper is important because it is a guideline for designers who are just starting, and it is a great tool for even professionals use.

A few of examples that this story gives us to why using a grid is essential is because it saves time and money, “it is for simpler design with visual balance, for a guided user experience, for great user experience, and for easier maintenance of a webiste”. Using the grid is very beneficial and this story explains why pretty well. I don’t see any drawbacks, one might say limited freedom to be creative, but I think there is definitely ways of still being creative with the use of a grid. The grid is just a tool to help a designer have a clean layout to hatever design they are doing.

Good design is easy to understand.

I found this paper very useful because it allows for one to see how simple and easy it is to use the grid, along with showing how efficient and time saving it is. Using the Grid is something I honestly don’t normally use because it was never really enforced or even brought up as a useful tool for me to use. I think sometimes we just want to hurry and skip steps, but the problem with that is that it can take longer once we mess up or the end product comes out different the expected. Using the Grid saves time from having to start completely over because if you still don’t like the result, you can just make subtle changes with the help of the grid.

There are not any blindspots from what I examined because no matter what, the Grid is juts a useful tool and does not necessarily need to be used, but is does benifit one if it is used.

Thanks :)
