New Year’s resolutions of a software developer
What are my goals for 2023?
2022 has gone dangerously fast, hasn’t it? I’m afraid that 2023 won’t slow down at all, and maybe it will pass even faster (I’m already beginning to understand what adults meant when I was a child, and when they said to each other that time passes so quickly).
This is why it’s so important to thoroughly plan the year that has just started — at the end of this year, I want to say with a clear conscience that I took care of my personal and professional development and am better than a year ago.
However, before I enter this year for real, I would like to share with you my achievements from the past year.
How was 2022?
I can say that 2022 introduced lots of changes in my personal and professional sphere:
- I landed a new job as a senior developer for implementations of Guidewire Software¹
- I passed several Guidewire certifications, including ClaimCenter 10 Ace and upgrades to cloud versions
- I began writing articles on Medium
- Because I do love good coffee, I launched my polish YouTube channel², where I explain coffee-related stuff
New Year, New Me
Buff, it’s January 9th, so it’s not too late with New Year’s resolutions yet. See what’s been running in my head for this year:
- I’ve been learning about cloud-oriented programming — I’m halfway through reading Sam Newman’s book³ about microservices, which seems a great starting point
- I’m going to start preparation for Google Cloud Developer certification, and I’m going to pass the exam
- I’m finishing off writing the series about Git for everyone, a.k.a. Meet Git⁴, so I’ll have more time for writing about more technical stuff (like cloud programming)
- I want to make videos on YouTube more regularly (once per month would be considered as good progress compared to the last year)
- Morning workout at the gym twice per week (this has undoubtedly a high priority, as being healthy allows to realize everything else)
- Deepen my cooking knowledge to cook quickly and tasty to save time
Summary
In my opinion, the plan above is kind of ambitious. Will I manage this?
Well, apart from 9 to 17 job, writing articles on Medium, making videos about coffee, and preparing for cloud certifications, the most important badge waiting for me this year is to become a dad!
I definitely need to improve my time management skills and make the most of every free moment. So, forget scrolling walls, forget about watching Netflix.
This year promises to be quite intense, but also exciting as never before! Wish me luck :)
