How does the review for Girls Trip get a mostly positive “hey its got some flaws but WOWEEE what a fun trip!” and the review for Dunkirk gets the exact opposite treatment with mostly negative comments and at best — backhanded compliments here and there. I already commented on the Dunkirk review, I’m not trolling, I’m interested in how you reconcile these 2 reviews written side by side. Half of the Dunkirk review was you re-hashing and lamenting all the ways in which Nolan re-hashes the same strategies and styles in his movies (always male centered with discarded female characters). But then here, you shower a director with praise who makes exclusively all-black movies, several of which have the EXACT same “old friends, new adventure” premise as Girls Trip (The Best Man, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, The Best Man Holiday, The Best Man Wedding etc.) No doubt I have a bias towards Nolan > Lee, but why does a director who tackles projects as massive, complex, and difficult as Nolan get his feet held to the fire while the guy who makes a pretty good comedy with a completely worn out premise gets the benefit of the doubt?
