A Closer Look At Power Apps
The world of technology is rapidly changing, and businesses continue to use and follow evolving technologies to optimize their processes and gain a competitive advantage. In this context, low-code application development platforms like Microsoft’s Power Apps provide businesses with the opportunity to create custom applications quickly and effectively. In this article, I will discuss what is Power Apps and its advantages.
What is Power Apps?
Power Apps is a low-code application development platform developed by Microsoft. This platform enables users to create custom business applications without the need for complex coding skills. Power Apps offers the ability to quickly create prototypes through a drag-and-drop interface and facilitates process automation and data integration.
Let’s start by going to the Power Apps main page.
On the main page, you can view projects you’ve previously created or create new projects with ready-made designs.
To begin creating a new project from scratch, navigate to the “Create” tab on the left panel. Additionally, you have the option to create a project by connecting to a data source. In this case, I will start a new application from scratch, so let’s proceed with that.
After selecting blank app, we have 3 options. First one is Canvas app, we can develop low-code applications with canvas app. We can develop more design-oriented projects. With Model-Driven App, we can develop data management-oriented projects. Power Pages is a Microsoft product with which we can develop web pages. I will also be talking about power pages in my future articles. In this article, I will show you a project example via canvas app.
After clicking the Create button in the Canvas App area, we write the name of our application and select its format. We can develop an application in phone format, but I will proceed with the tablet format that we can easily use on both the computer and the phone. After choosing our format, we click on the create button again.
A blank page greets us. First, let’s examine the fields on the left panel. We can expand the panel by clicking on the menu icon at the top of the left panel. Tree view is the first area that greets us where we see our pages, the components we add to these pages, and the hierarchical structure.
In the Insert section, we can view the components that we can include in the project, and it is an area that provides us with a lot of flexibility, we can find almost all the components we need here.
In the data section, we can add our data to our application. There are 100+ connectors and databases we can use here. In my opinion, the most preferred ones are Dataverse and Sharepoint. Because I think they are very useful options in terms of both usage and management. Among the two, I think Sharepoint is the most useful. Because it does not contain any premium usage. But Dataverse requires a premium account.
