Ship Built in 1841 Still Sailing

The Charles W. Morgan is the last of its kind.

The Charles W. Morgan is the last of America’s wooden whaling ships. The fleet used to number more than 2700 ships during the height of the importance of whale oil.

Now, she holds the record for the oldest commercial that’s still seaworthy. She had some repairs done as you would expect of an old ship but she’s still the ship that sailed across the globe in bygone days.

There was once a time when the crew of the ship were chased by cannibals in the South Pacific. She is now a protected historic artifact that’s still sails the seas.

You can view more pictures of her here.
