This assumes that current companies do not understand and design their products for women. Well if that were true then Darwinan forces will soon come into play and all these companies which lack women representation will fall flat on their face. Why doesn’t a company with equal representation and so called good culture kick out Googles, Amazons, Ubers and Airbnbs of the world. Is it possible that to understand humans you just have to be human (and not a man/woman). Otherwise with a global product as big as Google, Amazon and likes have, soon people will start wanting representation on basis of various divisions. You dont understand european point of view get some europeans on the board, Jamaicans are under represented get them also, tens of subcultures in India, China will want representation as well. The logic falls flat there.
I believe in equal oppurtunity and treatment for all but the way to establish this culture and kick brogramming in the stomach is to build something bigger and better which follows the culture we are preaching. All current arguements favour changing existing companies. Well its their company (shareholders and employees) they can do whatever they want if thats wrong it will harm them in long term and they will correct their path. Larry Page didnt go to Yahoo back in 95 and protest hey you guys are doing web search wrong. Correct it or I will write a long article protesting it. Instead he went ahead and built a better larger and more impressive company. In the end it turned out to be Yahoo’s loss. Why not advocates of equality for women techies do the same thing. Build a better larger company with the right cultural values. These others since they dont make products designed to include women’s perspective.
