Do this to improve your Macbook Pro’s (with Touch Bar) battery life significantly.
You can thank me later.
So if you have been feeling frustrated like I was with regards to the battery life of the Macbook Pro (with Touch Bar), I tried something that improved the battery life significantly. Still not as good as the previous Macbooks but much much better.
So the Touch Bar is pretty cool but it is damn irritating at times, right? For instance when you try to find the esc button but realise that the comfort of finding it without having to look at it is gone. But that’s still minor to the fact that the Touch Bar is an electron guzzler; I’d mentioned this in my earlier post:
So I started following the Activity Monitor as to what was causing the majority of the Battery Drain, and I got these 3 as the top items:
- Spotlight
- Google Chrome
- Safari
In my quest to try and link these to the Touch Bar, I discovered that you can customise the Touch Bar for each and every app that you use. Sadly, you can’t customise it in general, not yet, but I have a hunch Apple will bring it soon in the System Preferences.

Anyway, so I went on to customise the Touch Bar for both the browsers that I use and was awestruck by how Apple has devised the drag and drop of items from the screen to the Touch Bar.
What I did was turn off typing suggestions in the customisation settings for each of the browsers, and bam!, the battery drain started getting arrested. I’m sure that as I use more programs, I’ll have to customise the Touch Bar for the frequently used ones in case they are eating into the battery life.
So there you are, try it and let me know in case it worked for you too.
Cheers!
