Every year, millions of students in India compete in various entrance exams to get admission in India’s top engineering institutes with IIT’s being the first choice for every engineering aspirant. But getting admission into an IIT is not so easy, one has to clear two exams (JEE Mains and JEE Advanced)

Around 1.2 million students compete in JEE every year from which around only 170k appear in JEE advanced fighting for 11k seats.

The Problem

The struggle of getting into an IIT has not finished yet. After clearing JEE Advanced, the student now has to choose between different IITs Filling of choices is never an easy task. After one or two years of rigorous studies and hard work, everyone wants what is best for them.

One has to look for different aspects for determining the best college for them. For which they will need a heck lot of information about the departments, placements, location, facilities, different groups, fests and a lot more.

Usually a student has to do a lot of web surfing to get every bit of the scattered information all over the internet.

Ah, So tiring it is! Also, If your luck is not with you, sometimes you may get false information too. All of this is very frustrating for a student whose decision can really make a BIG difference to his/her future.

The Solution

The existing way of searching can be very hectic as most of the IIT’s have their info scattered around a web of almost 5–6 websites.

The Idea is to create a platform where all information is already collected for the coming freshers.

Collecting all the required data can help in improving the existing situation,
Here is the list of details almost all Freshers need for a wise decision:

  • Details about different courses offered by the institute. — Syllabus, Companies offering jobs, Course structure, etc.

Moreover, Facebook contacts of seniors of a particular branch are provided, so that users can contact seniors of respective branches and get to know more about them.

Branding

I decided to give a clean and simple look to the application. No bright colors are used in the application to minimize distractions and increase readability as it already has a lot of media images.
For typography, I decided to use two fonts,
Open Sans and Lora.

Open Sans is used as primary font in the application.

Lora as the secondary font for blogs and articles.

Mockups

Summing Up

This project helped me in improving my UX skills. Moreover, I learned a lot about proper typography, pairing of font and their importance in content rich designs.

It took me almost a week to completely design the app. The Concept really got a good response on social media. A few developers also offered to collaborate.
