These are some of the frontmen from different underground Metal bands in #Paraguay, surfing across Death, Black, Heavy, Grindcore, Metalpunk, and Hardcore. Despite it’s a small and very DIY-inspired scene, the country has had an incipient increase in the number of international shows and professional music releases from various Metal sub-genres in the last years.
Estos son algunos de los vocalistas de diferentes bandas de Metal underground en Paraguay, navegando a través del Death, Black, el Heavy, Grindcore, Metalpunk y Hardcore. A pesar de que es una escena pequeña y muy inspirada en el DIY (Do It Yourself), el país ha tenido un incipiente incremento en el número de shows internacionales y lanzamientos profesionales de varios subgéneros de Metal en los últimos años.
As usual, some of the topics treated in the lyrics and music of paraguayan metalheads speak about death, horror, nihilism and satanism among others, but some bands too have been incorporating Paraguay’s traditional tales taken from the #Guarani native’s oral culture. Stories about goblins, evil dwarves and other mythological beings have found a new place to survive in paraguayan underground Metal.
Como es usual, algunos de los tópicos tratados en las líricas y música de los metaleros paraguayos hablan sobre la muerte, el horror, nihilismo y satanismo entre otros, pero algunas bandas también han estado incorporando las historias tradicionales del Paraguay, tomadas de la cultura oral de los nativos Guaraníes. Cuentos sobre duendes, enanos malvados y otros seres mitológicos han encontrado un nuevo lugar en el que sobrevivir dentro del Metal underground de Paraguay.
Also, war and its horrors aren’t absent. Guerra contra la Triple Alianza (1865–1870) and Guerra del Chaco (1932–1935) have left an imprint on Paraguayan art expressions; and Metal —in the form of Thrash and other extreme sub-genres — it’s not stranger at the time of narrating about the battles and heroes (sometimes, some of these heroes are taken as war criminals, depending on the interpretation, a part of Paraguay’s history that still today hasn’t being solved) that have fought with courage against the odds, the cruelty and barbarism of foreign invaders.
La guerra y sus horrores tampoco están ausentes. La Guerra contra la Triple Alianza (1865–1870) y la Guerra del Chaco (1932–1935) han dejado su huella en las expresiones artísticas paraguayas; y el Metal — en la forma de Thrash y otros subgéneros extremos — no es ajeno a la hora de narrar sobre las batallas y héroes (a veces, esto héroes son considerados criminales de guerra, dependiendo de la interpretación, una parte de la historia del Paraguay que todavía hoy ha sido resuelta) que han luchado con coraje contra las probabilidades, la crueldad y barbarie de invasores extranjeros.
Sometimes sung in Guarani — Paraguay’s native tongue — along with Spanish and English, or incorporating some elements of Paraguayan folk music (Polka and Guarania, respectively); Paraguayan underground Metal has a special taste that only some countries have the opportunity to create and export, although mainstream media didn’t give to it proper coverage… but that’s something most of their hardcore fanatics are happy about.
A veces cantado en Guaraní — lengua nativa del Paraguay — además de Español e Inglés, o incorporando algunos elementos de la música popular paraguaya (Polka y Guarania, respectivamente); el Metal paraguayo tiene un sabor especial que solo algunos países tienen la oportunidad de crear y exportar, a pesar de que los medios masivos no le han dado la cobertura correspondiente… pero eso es algo de lo que muchos de sus más fieles fanáticos siguen contentos.
Often played in Colorado Party’s branch edifications, other in municipal infrastructures or public squares, and finally in metal pubs; Paraguayan Metal always found a way to reach their fans. Sacrifice, sweat — Paraguay is a very hot country to always wear black t-shirts and leather jackets— and an ethos that refuses to fade away are some of the ingredients that make from Paraguayan Metal an exquisite plate for die-hard fans and Cult Metal worshippers.
