Ethical Issues In Sociology

Kyli,

I agree that the protocols taken in the Zimbardo Experiment were highly unethical. However, I believe that the Milgram Experiment was ethical, simply because no one was ever actually harmed, and the illusion of the “learners” actually being tortured was required to get valid results. Also, all participants could leave at any time and the “teachers” always had the option to refuse to “torture” them. Therefore, it was ethical in my opinion, though I understand your viewpoint as well. Also, studying friendship patterns is something I never really thought about, but that would be very interesting to learn more about!
