Do you know that browser like google chrome has an incognito mode also called privacy browsing? In that mode, Chrome won’t save your browsing history, cookies and site data.

Incognito mode

However, even if you are in incognito mode when you log in your google account, google can easily link everything to your history.

Most of us are benefitted by the way Google uses our personal information. We enjoy the “recommendation” they made for us. But if what Cambridge Analytica has done with Facebook to misuse users’ data did not be reported, we will never know the dark side of these tech giants. We are so transparent when surfing on the internet. We expose every aspect of us to the internet. It’s unfair that we know nothing about how tech companies use our data.

We need Internet Bill of Rights. It provides consumers with more control over their personal data. The right to be fully informed of the scope of data use and to be informed when there is a change of control over data also helps build trust between online users and service providers. It can benefit companies that do good things to personal data. Not all companies misuse data like Facebook.

We have suffered from spam calling for so many years and we do not know who is selling our data to whom and what can we do to protect ourselves. Getting benefits from allowing tech companies to use our data does not mean that they can use data incorrectly. There should be some legislation like the Internet Bill of Rights.

But I feel it can be very difficult to implement it since it really needs some technology to check if tech giants like Facebook or Apply used your private data in an incorrect way. In the meantime, this directive can at least protect personal’s rights when their data is being used without permission.
