I don’t remember how I stumbled upon Brent Beshore and what he’s doing with Adventur.es, but at times it feels like I’ve stumbled on my generation’s Warren Buffet. Private equity has become a veritable mess of debt-laden egotism. Everything I’ve read from Beshore is a return to first principles of business building — building a good business.

This book represents a solidly practical guide from a solidly practical man with an intended audience of the folks selling their companies. If, instead of a practical guide, you’re more interested in a philosophical commentary, you couldn’t do better than Beshore’s annual letters for his firm Adventur.es.

Towards the end of the book, there is a specific quote that struck me:

Interestingly enough, this book feels like an ‘opening of the lid’ on the way Brent Beshore and his team think about making investments, evaluating companies, and managing the intense complexity of company buying.

“The biggest issue most businesses face is reliance on ownership. The owner holds the top relationships, leads strategy, makes the investment decisions, and holds the bulk of the expertise.
