I agree it’s about creating the necessary actions for thriving which is much more complicated than just the reading/doing dichotomy. What I was getting at was that to make change, one has to do something to bring about the change. There is a deeper process to anything we do that goes beyond just the initial doing but that is where many tend to start. Through experience, “failing up” as I’ve heard it explained, we develop insights that help us to work through the process you describe which works well for you. As you describe, the planning process of UbD, beginning with the end in mind, is foundational for planning — not only what will students be able to do but how will it apply to their lives/the world over time.
