I certainly agree that little will change if we continue to focus on “knowing and doing a specific list of “things” chosen by adults and easily “assessed” on standardized tests”. That is why discussions such as these are important — to openly explore learning as conceptualized in a different way that the current format in most schools where testing and teaching to the test dominate.
I like using Understanding by Design in order to focus on Big Ideas and Essential Questions where the content becomes an integral part of exploring and learning and not the goal of the learning.
