Thanks, Conor McGregor
Why in the world would an MMA fighter like Conor McGregor challenge one of the greatest boxers in Floyd Mayweather, Jr. to begin with?
Besides the $30 million and the ‘Notorious’ bravado involved, the answer perhaps lies in the aftermath of the match-up at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night. For those of you who missed it, Mayweather won it in the tenth round via technical knockout.
No doubt McGregor is tough. His UFC fighting and Lightweight title in the octagon prove that. However in boxing, he was labeled an inexperienced amateur from the get-go.
McGregor although unsuccessful victory wise, stepped in the ring and not only did some damage but proved he could compete. His training showcased a surprising display of advanced skill on the canvas in the early rounds. It’s fair to applaud him for that. To get to that next level, he adapted his physiology and used an altitude chamber extensively.
Despite his adjustments exclusive to boxing, what hurt McGregor in the end was that he was fatigued by the match length. Ultimately, his gain was the value of the experience.
He can place some of that knowledge into a future expectation and be ready for the next battle. At 29 years-old his adaptation will only get better with the new challenges ahead.
Only through repetition and adaptation can anyone grow and be fearless enough to do anything. With that, be in gratitude to Mr. McGregor and find your own professional version of Mayweather in order to demand more of yourself.
