I took a break, now I’m getting back into it…. hard.

Me and my photography

In early 2011, I was at a point where I did not know (was afraid of) what the next step was to take my photography career to the next level. There wasn’t anything I could do photo wise, my technical skill was second to none, but I did not have the business sense. I was at the point in my photo career where I did not know how to take myself to the next step, and when I would get there, what would happen. How would I stand apart from the rest? Would I fail? That was my biggest fear.

About the same time when I was starting to really think about my photography career and what I was doing with my life, another opportunity literally fell in my lap. GoPro. It was the perfect thing I needed. A creative break from photo to learn a new skill of video and see how a business is ran. My original idea was that I would work for GoPro to give myself a break form photography, and later on, start my photo gig back up with a fresh new outlook. Still the same skills as I had before, but would be armed with many more weapons in the creative field.

Since I started working for GoPro, I haven’t really taken any photos…. digitally. What I did get into though, was medium and large format film and instant film. It was something I have always gravitated towards, this rudimentary style of taking photos., but I wanted to get back to the basics. Get back to where it all started from and find the joy in taking photos again. Honestly, shooting digital was too easy for me. Film and instant film made me take a couple steps back and really understand the process of taking a photo. What it takes to to create that perfect shot.

I just baught a new camera. Mainly because of the tax write-off, but something told me now was the time to buy one which means now is the time to start taking photos again.

I can’t wait!
