“Obesity is now considered a greater threat to public health than is hunger.”
Could it be possible the overconsumption of monocrops particularly grains such as soy, wheat, corn have created the atrocity of obesity with a side of type 2 diabetes?
I used to believe as you do Ajit, truly. When I found out how we’ve been lied to about the benefits of grains, oils derived from them, sweeteners, “proper” diets of complex carbohydrates, etc. I nearly had my own cow.
Of course animals treated poorly and fed even worse are not the answer. Properly fed and harvested livestock has a very important role in the health and longevity of human life.
Just because we “can” eat primarily grains, cereals and vegetation does not mean it is best for our overall health. It makes us fat. The cost of health care and the lower quality of life we have created for our society by transitioning to less nutrient dense foods cannot be overlooked or ignored any longer.
Something that caught my eye here on Medium recently was the models being used for vertical ocean farming, or “3D Ocean Farming”. This looks very sustainable and may relieve the land of some burden pertaining to food production now and in the future.
Peace.
