I don’t understand this move from the Nets’ perspective… sure they’re willing to use cap space to take on large contracts, but shouldn’t they be trying to acquire high first-round picks (or players with a strong draft pedigree like D’Angelo Russell) in exchange?

They can’t tank without a draft pick this year, so they’re trying to add as much talent as possible. Fine. But the opportunity cost of adding Crabbe is the inability to engage in another Mozgov-type trade in the future.

Which would better serve the Nets franchise, having Crabbe or taking on an equally bad contract but picking up a future first round pick in the process?

For a team that’s nowhere close to contending, it seems like a pick would be a much more valuable asset.
