Hello, World! I’m Kyle.

Hello, World!
My name is Kaka.
Seriously. Kind of.
Yes, Kaka.
Born and raised in the Philippines, it was the name given to me as a child because I couldn’t pronounce my more English-sounding name, “Kyle.” Then I moved to the US.
Then Kyle stuck.
Today, I’m back in the Philippines, where my name often gets mispronounced and is misunderstood as a girl’s name.
I get called “Ma’am Kyle” all the time, but the funny thing is, I’m actually named after Kyle Reese from the movie, “The Terminator.”
But what’s in a name?
I could wax philosophical all day and all night on the philosophy of names and language games that it would border nearly on the inane. So I wont.
This website, however, does bear my name so I thought talking about it would be the best place to start. You already know what I already do, right? (Pro Tip: View the homepage.) Otherwise, there’s more about me below ▼
About My Work
How I Got To Do What I Do
Radio

I got lucky getting into radio — really lucky. Most people are.
A total newbie in radio, I had no clue what to do. Thankfully, my first and only partner, Andie, took me under her wing and helped me to suck less during our show, AK947. We were together for five years.
When I was younger, I had actually burned a CD-R disc (remember those?!?) where I had recorded myself doing a time check, a weather check, and a traffic update. I snail mailed copies of that disc to Mellow, Magic, what was then RT and Max FM, Wave, and Rx.
Of course, I got no replies. I’m not surprised. I wouldn’t have hired me either anyway.
I sounded awful. Totally sucked. Though after nearly six years in radio, I’d like to think I’m better at it now than when I first started (though my brain does tend to blank out once in a while). Nonetheless, it’s been a blast, it still is, and I hope to keep doing this for just a little bit longer.
TV

I got pretty lucky getting into television, too.
I had once guested on a morning show on NET25 to promote a business I started a few years ago. To make the most of that opportunity, I got in touch with the executive producer of my favorite tech show in the country, Convergence. Now, I’m a part of that show.
So back then, I got the former EP’s number. I did my homework on her and the TV show. And I finally texted her. I said I would work for free. I would write, research, anything to help out the show. I genuinely loved technology and to be part of Convergence would have been a dream come true.
Turns out dreams do come true, and I still really haven’t woken up from mine. Now I am both the host and executive producer of Convergence.
We’ve got big plans for the reboot of Convergence, and at the very least, I hope to give it an upgrade and make it into something greater and more helpful to our community than when I first found it.
Blog

I now blog. Funny how I’ve been following blogs all my life and I never decided early on to create my own.
Also, that’s Matt, the creator of WordPress. Like a bunch of Lego blocks, WordPress let me play on the Internet and I eventually learned how to put this site together — yes, all by myself.
I also got tired of reading and following along, so I finally decided to create and lead a different narrative.
And, unlike many of the blogs I’ve seen sprout up like weeds recently, my goal here is to keep things legit and not sell out. There will be no Google ads or any kind of misleading and annoying in-your-face crap on this site. Everything will be clearly marked as sponsored not just once, but at least twice.
Ultimately, it’s about connection. I can’t connect with you if there’s a pop-up ad between us. So, let’s begin.

I have been around for about 32 years. I’d like to think I’ve learned a few things along the way.
Been all around the world. Been broke many times; never been rich. Have loved not enough, and have hurt way too much.
I’m probably overcomplicating this right now as I’m ought to do, too. That’s just the way I am — OCD — and that’s just the way things are, I guess. Imma just do me.
Nonetheless, lessons learned thus far here at the end. Surely, more are to come. It’s nearly 3AM.
Life Lessons from a Fairly Short Life:
1. Take that leap and believe in something greater than yourself. Have faith that you’ll find sound footing on the other side. Pray.
2. Talk the talk and walk the walk. A is A. You can’t say you are something or will do something and then not be that person or not do that thing.
3. The simplest equation to success is probably working your ass off so hard for so long that you’re eventually bound to meet with Lady Luck. It’s all downhill from there. (I’m still climbing.)
4. I’d like to leave this world better than I found it. I love my niece Caliyah. She’s the whole world to my family. She, like every young kid out there, deserves nothing but the best life possible.
5. I’d also like to sleep more. That’s more of a goal than a life lesson right now though. But I bet it’ll be a lesson down the line. Thirty-two years from now I’ll say, “I wish I had slept more when I was thirty-two.”

“There’s supposed to be a sixth life lesson, but I haven’t lived long enough yet to be sure of it.”
