Why the Internet Must Be Regulated
Duncan Riach

Wow, a self-described “polymath.”

We had a government regulated internet for 100 years. It was called the “telephone.” It was regulated for all the same reasons you give. The technology of the telephone was essentially unchanged for 100 years. Why innovate when the government has outlawed all of your competitors?

In 1982 that non-polymath Ronald Reagan broke up this monopoly: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakup_of_the_Bell_System

Fast forward a few years and cable TV is everywhere and the new and improved internet is born. Free-er market capitalism did that.

If you want less of something, regulate it. I want a free and vibrant internet.
