Curved screens suck

No Seriously……

Hello all, so I’ve been dealing with this issue for a couple years now and when I saw the new Pixel 6 pro had one I had to say something. Curved screens on smartphones were popularized by Samsung due to the massively popular galaxy S8. I bought the Samsung S8 and I loved the relatively tiny bezels and cool curved screen, but that was in 2017(woah its been 4 years huh?). In 2021 curved screens although they might look very cool and futuristic are a nightmare to use on a daily basis and these are some reasons why:

-No/limited screen protectors/cases

As many have pointed out over the years, curved screens do not fit most screen protectors or they do and you just have a bad experience and you rip it off in frustration and you think welp there goes 20 bucks. This argument can also be said in regards to cases as some cases just don’t work with curved displays.

-Accidental touches

We’ve all had our moments where we were watching YouTube and accidently touched the screen edge and it went back (RAGGEE).Yea that’s frustrating and terrible and all the other words to describe not great in the dictionary.

-Screen glare

If you don’t know what I’m talking about here a picture, this the One plus 7 pro. Great phone btw i loved the innovative popup camera and 90 hertz screen but the curved screen not so much but also the weight but that’s irrelevant.

-Expensive repairs

On Android we are used to lackluster updates and poor compatibility with some apps, well you can add more expensive repairs to the list as well. Sometimes it’s more cost effective to buy a new phone. According to a list on Samsung’s website of repair costs for all current Samsung phones the s20 ultra is 279 USD. I’ll also include Apple Repair service costs which ranges from 29 USD to 200+. Samsung has discontinued curved screens as their last curved display phone was the S20 series.

This trend has been rampant in android phones and thank god iPhone did not adapt to it but they have their own issues(EW is that a notch). What I learned in retail is that you can never satisfy everyone so companies please just give us options to opt in or out or just don’t do a curved screen

Thank you for reading. I hope you liked my article, if you have any questions, concerns and you just wanna say hi please post that in the comments below.
