What baits you?

Bait — inktober 3, art by the author

Baiting is one of those words that can have a lot of meanings. In fishing you bait a hook so you can in theory catch a fish. Or think you have a chance of catching a fish.

Then there is baiting on the internet where someone says something they know will get people upset because they like seeing people upset.

And then there is the bait and switch, where one thing is offered, but in truth it’s something else.

There’s baiting into an argument with people that’s a more personal form of the internet version.

Then there is clickbait which is some tittle that gets people to click to often see something that has very little to do with the tittle.

I’ve been trying to think of a more positive type of bait. Bait gets people interested, and so I’ve been thinking of how to think of things in ways that make me more curious. Curiousity is good. It keeps the mind fresh, it stops the stagnation caused by certainty. Being open, being excited by learning I think, is the best way to keep one’s self young of mind.
