Motivation
I am pretty keen on one fact: if you could choose any era to be alive, it would be now. I would bet you that King George III would give up half of London for efficient plumbing, first world health care, and a neighborhood grocery store. Why am I so certain that this is the best time to be alive?
In many respects, the world has never been cleaner, safer, or more prosperous. Rates of global poverty, disease, child mortality, war, genocide, are their lowest ever, and they mostly likely will continue to go down.
I am motivated by this: the rarity, uniqueness, and privilege of being alive now. I am even more motivated by a unique position — I can use my mind to solve problems and improve the world around me even more.
- Recognition that it is a unique time to be alive.
- Recognition that the world needs creative people to solve problems — no matter how big or small.
- Recognition that you’re in a unique position (if not one of the very few) to solve those problems.
That is what I find exciting about today.
