Adventure in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a gorgeous city with beautiful canals and architecture. I was lucky enough to explore it this summer with my mom and my grandparents.

When my mom and I arrived, we took a taxi to the hotel. It was a Tesla. The driver said that soon, most taxis in Amsterdam would be Teslas, to help the environment. We checked in at the Pulitzer hotel, which was made up of 6 canal houses.

The first thing we did was walk around. The Pulitzer was situated on a canal, near the city center, so there was lots to see. First, we visited the Tulip Museum. Tulips used to be a very valuable item in the Netherlands. The best tulips could be sold for almost as much as a house!

Then we stopped for a snack at Pancakes. Amsterdam. Dutch pancakes were kind of like French crepes. They were delicious. After our pancakes, we walked back to the hotel and asked for directions to Momo, a sushi restaurant. It was a 2o minute walk. We had sushi and steamed fish for dinner.

The next day we did the Flowers of Amsterdam Tour with Hanneke. We went to a flower factory and saw flowers being carried away for auctioning and exportation. Next we went to a rose grower. There were rows of roses and each of them smelled fantastic. There were also lots of animals. Fish and turtles in a pond, chickens, and kittens.

After, we went to the town of Haarlem and explored. We had lunch and went to the oldest science museum in the Netherlands. When we got back, we met my grandparents and had delicious Thai food for dinner.

At 10:00am the next day, we had a small group tour about Jewish history. It was pretty long and not very fun, in my opinion. It was a lot of lecturing from our tour guide. We learned a lot, but it was boring. Then late in the afternoon, we went on a boat for a tour of the canals. It was relaxing and enjoyable.

We had another tour with Hanneke at the Rijksmuseum, an art museum. We saw a variety of different painting from different artists, the highlight being the Night Watch, by Rembrandt. We ate lunch at the Rijksmuseum. Then we were supposed to take a painting class but they switched the location on us and we couldn’t make it.

Then we took the tram to the The Royal Concertgebouw and saw the Robeco Jazzclub show. It was my first Jazz show and I thought it was pretty good. We had Chinese food for dinner at Chang-i.

The next day we went relaxed and went shopping at the 9 streets. We didn’t really do much.

In the early morning, we did a photo shoot on the streets of Amsterdam. It was fun and we got great pictures. Next we went to the Anne Frank House. It was amazing how they hid for so long in such a tiny space. Then at night, we went back to the Concertgebouw and saw a string quartet. They did cool things with their instruments and had a dog machine and lights.

The next day was the Amsterdam Pride Parade. It went on for hours. Boats on the canal paraded by filled with crowds of people dressed up and flourishing signs. The horde of people watching screamed and shouted. It was chaotic.

The next day, we went to Schiphol Airport and flew home.
