For five years, my family has been going to Costa Rica once a year for about a week. This is the first time we’ve been there in the summer It was just as gorgeous as the winter.

Every year, We go through the same routine: Taking the five hour flight to Liberia airport, then the 3 hour drive to Nosara, Costa Rica. For the week that we’re there, My brother and I take surfing lessons and my mom goes for long walks on the beach with our dog.

Dogs are allowed to run freely in Costa Rica. You always see dogs off the leash, running around the beach or in walking beside people on the road. One of the great things about Costa Rica. Our dog loves it there.

The beach at Nosara is gorgeous. It is called Playa Guiones. It’s a long expanse of soft sand and crashing waves great for surfing. You can walk forever out to sea, without fear of seaweed or rocks. At low tide, you can find sea snails inching through the sand, and different crabs diving into holes as you come close.

There are also other things to do at Costa Rica. We drove to a waterfall one day and played in the water. It was fun and a nice rest from salty water. There is also a zip lining and hiking.

The food at Costa Rica is also very good. A traditional Costa Rican food is a Casado. It’s usually beans and rice and salad with either fish or chicken. In Nosara, there are several good restaurants. Pizza, Costa Rican food, burgers, seafood, Peruvian, and a sushi restaurant.

This year, along with surfing, my brother and I did community service. We volunteered at a tree nursery where they are replanting coastal forests. We also did a beach cleanup at Playa Garza. It was horrible how much trash that was. We found shoes, bottle caps, cans, and even a broken TV.

Costa Rica is a place to relax and recharge for us. It’s a way to escape the bustle of life and just enjoy ourselves at the beach. It purely reflects the motto of Costa Rica: Pura Vida, or Pure Life.
