Israel: the Word Leader in Cybersecurity
Israel is a global leader in the field of cybersecurity. Today, Israel receives roughly one fifth of the world’s global private investment in cybersecurity. As the journalist Alob Ben-David points out, as a very small community that is practically an island, Israel is completely surounded by nations that they cannot trust. Israel had to compensate its lack in resources. As a country that has to conduct constant surveillace of its neighbours, Isreal had to become creative and found, that war in the traditional way is much too expensive in respect to resources and of course in respect to people’s life. So “cyber” was the right answer in a lot of things that Israel had to achieve.
Israel’s private cybersecurity industry is essentially the child of the Israel military affairs. Military service is mandatory for most of Israel’s citizens. As of now, Israel employs around 20000 cyber soldiers. Roni Zehavi, CEO of Cyberspark, the Israeli Cyber Innovation Arena in Beer-Sheva, explains that you can look at Israel’s army as the largest HR organization in the world. As going to the army in compulsary, they get a picture of the whole population and can find cybersecurity talents in a very early stage.
Therefore Israel has a become an interesting spot for large companies such as IBM or Intel. They can directly recruite very talented people that have been educated by Israel’s official institutions.
