Tupac Shakur had several conflicts with the law during his lifetime. In October 1991, he was arrested for sexually abusing a woman in a hotel room. He was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in November 1994 and sentenced to one-and-a-half to four-and-a-half years in prison. He was released on bail pending an appeal and began serving his sentence in February 1995.

In October 1993, Shakur was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred at a recording studio in New York City. He was charged with attempted murder and weapons possession, but was eventually acquitted of all charges in 1996.

In October 1995, Shakur was arrested in connection with a shooting at a Baltimore hotel. He was charged with assault and battery, but the charges were later dropped.

In 1996, Shakur was arrested for violation of probation for a previous conviction and was sentenced to 120 days in jail. He was released in October 1996, but was arrested again in November 1996 for a parole violation and was sentenced to another nine months in prison.
