Bordeaux: 5 tips
Like a beauty routine I have an essential dates in this beautiful and amazing city. Here we go:
1.-Cross the Pont de Pierre and admire La Garonne in all its splendor; walk from the Porte de Bourgogne to rue Coquille and imagine the thousand and one stories of pilgrims who have been there, way to Santiago de Compostela. Enter the Basilique Saint Seurin, and get to enjoy walking to the Cafe Bellini (15, allées Tourny) and taste, slowly, some of Bernard Magrez ´s wines and try any dish of the menu. Everything is delicious.
Port Cailhau — Bordeaux 2.- Sit on the terrace of Chez Fred, especially from 17:00 and see how people start arriving, the regulars and tourists. Located on the Place du Palais, has stunning views to the Porte Cailhau. Among good coffee, cocktails and various snacks, enjoy watching as time goes by.
L’ile bleue — Bordeaux 3.- Go through the historic area and get lost among small and varied craft shops. Although Bordeaux has a thousand and one commercial areas I prefer the small shops and enjoy one of the longest shopping streets in the world: Ste — Catherine. I never leave town without going and buying l’ile bleue (rue Porte-Dijeaux) and Parashop rue Ste-Catherine, where I always find the products Roger Gallet and La Roche Posay, at incredible prices . Nearby, in rue Vital Carles, is located one of the most beautiful and charismatic libraries I’ve ever seen: Librairie Mollat, located in the building that was the final resting place of Montesquieu. There, you enjoy good literature and good cofee. Take your time, it’s a must and I’m sure you love it.
Grand Theatre — Place de la Comedie 4.- Sit on the Place de la Comedie, with carousel music background and assist, if it’s possible, at a function at the Grand Theatre, an institution and one of the most beautiful theaters in France. Face it, is located one of the hotels that I like: The Grand Hotel Bordeaux. And once here, we should not let pass and buy the best macarons I’ve ever tasted in Maison Larnicol.
Place de la Bourse — Bordeaux 5.- Perform a tasting at the Maison du Vin. Absolutely a must. Then, walk from the Place de la Bourse to Chartrons to enjoy the Museum of Contemporary Art (CAPC) an old warehouse of colonial products, whose inner beauty, well worth a visit (free). Once here and to finish a great day, sit in IBAIA Cafe (Quai de Chartrons — Cité Mondiale) and enjoy its superb selection of wines, its wonderful cuisine and unique atmosphere with stunning views of La Garonne.
Carroussel — Bordeaux Centre After this festival and to remove toxins and / or clearing the mind, nothing like running or just walking through the Public Garden, which also includes the Botanical Garden, including ducks, swans, turkeys, … Amazing natural area.
