Mandal Vagarni


· 3 cups puffed rice (kurmure)

· 1 big onion chopped

· 3 green chillies chopped

· 3 curry leaves

· 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

· 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

· 1 tsp asafoetida

· 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

· 1 tbsp daliya powder

· 1 tsp lemon juice

· 1 tsp sugar

· salt to taste


  1. Soak kurmura in water for 1–2 minutes
  2. Heat oil in a pan
  3. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds
  4. Let them crackle and then add curry leaves, chopped green chillies, turmeric powder and asafoetida
  5. Mix well
  6. Add onions and sautee them till they become translucent
  7. Add 1 tsp sugar and salt to taste
  8. Mix well and then add the soaked kurmura
  9. Make sure to remove excess water from the kurmura
  10. Mix and cook it for a minute and then add the daaliya powder
  11. Garnish with lemon juice and serve hot
