UI/UX Designer Responsibilities & Skills

User interface and user experience designers are in great demand today. There is hardly any successful website without a pleasant and appealing user interface and positive experience of its visitors. Both these features play a very important role in website ranking and popularity, so the choice of a qualified and experienced designer is a highly responsible task. Let’s consider what responsibilities and skills UI and UX designer should have to be called a professional in his sphere.
UI designer should be ready to have the following responsibilities:
- To write computer code that will result in creation of the easy-to-use data entry interface without errors;
- Translate customer requirements into clear and well-executed concepts that will be used for interface design creation;
- Enhance the existing design;
- Develop the overall company brand, interaction model, website navigation etc.;
- Coordinate with other team members on the final design of the interface;
- Own the UI design lifecycle phase etc.
At the same time UI designer should possess the following skills:
- A sense of coherent interface arrangement;
- Active listening skills;
- Flexibility;
- A sense of design aesthetics;
- Ability to be a part of the team and collaborate with others;
- Problem solving, communication skills;
- Sensibility etc.
As the main objective of UX designer is different the list of the responsibilities and skills differs too. UX designer should have such responsibilities as:
- Make use of the professional software to design an excellent front-end experience for users;
- Make sketches of the visual concepts using both paper and software;
- Work on cross-platform apps so that user experience was perfect on any device;
- Create, re-design and make websites and apps that are easy-to-use, well-configured and responsive;
- Ensure that the final design of the projects meets requirements of the customer and provides users with optimal experience both efficient and engaging.
UX designer is expected to possess the following skills:
- Ready for solving problems;
- Visual creativity and awareness;
- Desire to learn new software;
- Being knowledgeable in coding and design;
- Excellent and effective communication skills;
- High level of concentration, logic and resilience;
- Flexibility and adaptability.
Though the list of responsibilities in both these professions is different, designers should have similar skills to be able to perform their work well and meet client’s expectations.
